Kidepo Valley National Park

Kidepo Valley National Park is located in northeastern Uganda on the borders with Kenya and South Sudan. It is isolated (we were virtually alone in the park), has splendid scenery, and is an exceptional place to see animals. The park is composed of two river valleys, surrounded by mountains. Kidepo is the only place in Uganda where you can find some species of mammals and birds, such as the cheetah, ostrich, and Abyssinian rollers. Before we get to the animals, we thought we should start with the scenery and sunsets.

Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda's largest national park and is composed of the Albertine Rift Valley and the Albert Nile, which flows through the middle of the park. The park earned its name from the approximately 120 feet of water that crash through a narrow gorge before gently flowing into Lake Albert. Churchill and Theodore Roosevelt visited the falls and parts of the Bogart/Hepburn classic, The African Queen, were filmed here. While trying to fly from Nairobi to the Congo, Hemingway crashed here. After being evacuated downstream, Hemingway's subsequent flight also crashed.

And what do lions eat?

All these animals (assuming they can catch them).

Lions, Tigers, and Bears...No, Just Lions

Just Lions? No, we can't really say that since we were absolutely giddy when we spotted this lioness.

And then, following her gaze, we spotted the cubs.

Somewhere nearby there may have been a lazy male lion but we couldn't find him. As our guide pointed out, lions just sleep all day and make the lioness hunt and care for the cubs.

Warthogs and Cape Buffalo

A lone buffalo is frequently called the "loser" buffalo. These buffalo have been exiled from the herd by the dominant male and can be very dangerous.
