A Little Wednesday Night Excitement

Just the other day I was telling a colleague that I was surprised that I had yet to see a snake in Laos. I had heard that other people had seen snakes near our house but I had not seen one yet. I don't really like snakes so I'm not sure why I was lamenting that I had not seen one but some Lao spirit must have been listening because...tonight we heard Berry barking and barking. Finally I went outside to see what she was barking at and it was pretty apparent that there was something on the ground near the wall. As I got a little closer I saw a thick, black snake hidden in the grass. Berry refused to leave the snake alone, barking and running from side to side. I finally managed to pull her away and the guard came to see what was going on. He was as scared as I was and ran to call for reinforcements.

Eventually we had a whole team strategizing how they could catch the snake (My first reaction was to kill the snake but I am not a very good Buddhist). Beth assisted by taking pictures and constantly reminding us to get further away from the snake.

The snake put up quite a fight but eventually they managed to snare it.

Berry, celebrating her achievement, with a little treat.
