Communist Work Camp

We finally had our first visitor in Laos and what do we do? We unknowingly take him to a communist work camp, disguised as an eco-lodge.

Everything started out well. A nice refreshing Pepsi after a bumpy ride.

But then, the darker side of the "lodge" came out. Throwing rocks at subversive cows.

Rare insects, the spawn of a cochroach, spider and cricket, attacking us and trying to infiltrate our luggage.
Then, they lured us to a "jungle bath" where we thought we were going to have a sauna and cool mountain bath. Instead, we were put into forced labor: starting a fire, sweeping, etc.

In the end, it all worked out. A beautiful sunset on a nice bend in the river.
Although this eco-lodge did not turn out to be quite as advertised we still managed to have a good time. It was very calm and peaceful with a great view. The sauna and bath were surprisingly enjoyable once we got that fire started. We followed this exotic spa treatment with a massage overlooking the river during a rainstorm. We can assure future visitors that they will receive the same hospitality (minus the labor and indoctrination).

  1. Everything sort of pales in comparison once you've been to Mountain Paradise.
