The Honeymoon is Over

Not the honeymoon of our marriage (more on that in a moment), but my honeymoon with Laos. There comes a point with every new place you live, when the honeymoon period wears off. When all the new experiences and strange differences cease being interesting or fascinating and just become mundane and/or annoying. I think I reached that point with Laos this week and to Laos' credit, it is impressive it took nearly four months. It wasn't any one thing this past week but just a series of little things that culminated with me catching a cold, and I really dislike having colds when it is really hot outside. In some ways I suppose the end of the euphoria is comforting because it lets you know that you are really living and working in a place as opposed to just passing through. Plus it is hard to stay mad at place that can provide the two images below.

We are also hard at work planning what will be our unofficial honeymoon. Based on flight and work schedules it looks the winner is going to be northern Vietnam. You'll be able to read about it in only a few weeks.
