Back to Luang Prabang

Work took me back to Luang Prabang recently. There wasn't nearly as much time to play but Luang Prabang remains as charming as ever. It was also surprisingly deserted which made it even more peaceful than usual.

We took a boat up the Mekong and then slowly made our way back to town while the sun was setting. Our boat captain's sales pitch to us was, "I have Lao whiskey on my boat!" I don't know how many tourists that line works on but it quickly became apparent that he actually did not have Lao whiskey on his boat. We suspect he had already drank it all. He did stop to let us buy a few beers for the ride (after we stopped at the floating gas station) and then joined us for a beer when we docked in town. The sun was setting and he told the restaurant owner that she had a beautiful view of the sunset. Then, as he looked towards the setting sun, he declared, "It's so bright I can't see anything."
