This morning I took my first trip to an African market in a few years. It was wonderful! There was a good variety of fruits and vegetables available. We arrived early enough to catch all the local farmers. The authorities kick the local farmers out of the market area at 9am to make room for the vendors. The local farmers sell one or two different items and only sell in bulk (not costco bulk, more like 5 servings instead on 2). After 9am the vendors, who buy a variety of fruits and vegetables from the farmers, sell their produce for a bit higher prices and in smaller amounts.
I was able to get everything we will need for the next few days.
Pineapple and bananas
Sweet potatoes and onions
Green onion, hot peppers, eggplant, zucchini, green beans, and cilantro.
Red and green peppers and butternut squash.
Bleach and distilled water for washing the vegetables.
What are you all cooking with this great produce?
ReplyDeleteWhile I love Cameroon, bleaching produce is one thing I won't miss. Glad you're enjoying Kampala so far!
