The Royal Theater

Besides having a palace and temple entirely his own, the King of Luang Prabang also had performers who would entertain him with songs, stories and dances. Today that tradition continues except the artists preform primarily for tourists. We were treated to songs and dances from the Ramayana including such crowd favorites as The Dance of the Monkeys, The Dance of the Giants and The Search for the Princess. Unfortunately they do not allow pictures during the actual performances so I cannot offer you any pictures of jumping, twirling and balancing. I can, however, assure that it was a very unique and interesting insight into Laotian culture.
