Tad Se Waterfall

Many apologies for lack of posts lately. We really hope the Internet problems at our house are solved for good this time. Last weekend, we were in the UNESCO World Heritage City of Luang Prabang, the old royal capital of Laos. There will be future posts about Luang Prabang but I wanted to write about the Tad Se waterfall first. This waterfall has a special place in my heart because, at least once a week, while interviewing individuals applying for visas in order to go to the U.S. as a fiancee of an American citizen, I see pictures of Tad Se. Apparently it is a popular spot for Lao love birds. The waterfall is about 20 km outside of Luang Prabang. Upon arriving at a small village, you board a narrow boat for a five minute ride towards the falls.

On the boat ride to the falls-I was a little frightened at how much the boat would rock back and forth with the slightest movement. Beth, on the other hand, was enjoying the scenery.

Part of the path to Tad Se-because is the rainy season the river was spilling over its banks

Tad Se is actually a series of many small waterfalls. The shallow pools created by these stair steps allow trees to grow which give the falls a very idyllic quality.

On the bridge along the falls

Contemplating where to climb next

After surviving climbing throughout the falls, I slipped on the bridge.

The small village where the boats originate has a small bar on the river. We were the only ones drinking but there was a small contingent of men watching Thai boxing. Inexplicably a cold beer in this remote village costs the exact same as it does in the city.

  1. For a minute there, I thought you had met the infamous 'taak'. Or I guess 'bing' since you're in the water.
