Tad Khouang Si is a beautiful waterfall about 30km outside of Luang Prabang. It's one of the "Must See" sites in Laos so we were eager to finally see it. Unlike its waterfall counterpart
Tad Se, Khouang Si falls about 80 meters before forming small pools fed by small cascades. It's a popular tourist site but we managed to find some quiet areas to enjoy the beauty.

And there are moon bears, which we learned are different from sun bears (who knew?). Having seen a few zoos in poor countries, we were a little sceptical about what kind of conditions these rescued bears would be in. In fact, they were one of the highlights of the trip to Khouang Si. The caretakers hide the food in the various contraptions in the enclosure, forcing the bears to hunt for their food. While we watched the bears were busy climbing, digging and even spin a hollow oil drum to shake out a few bananas.

Please tell me you went swimming in that swimming hole I wish I were there right now!
ReplyDeleteNeal went swimming but it was too cold for me. Instead I watched the crazy European travelers do flips off the rocks into the swimming hole.
